Abstract

A complete physicochemical charaterization of several crude oil fractions is accomplished and nuclear magnetic resonance of 13C and 1H, column chromatography, mass spectrometry and empiric correlations  are used to establish their chemical composition. The sensibility of these methodologies towards the chemical composition changes produced on some of these fractions by hydrotreatment is evaluated. The superiority of the mass spectrometry technique over the other analytical techniques for the characterization of lighter feeds is highlighted, its limitations are also shown for the analysis of the heavier ones that are better characterized by nuclear magnetic resonance and liquid chromatography.
